Friday Night Wildlife

You may not know it, but the Steffensruds have some pretty WILD Friday nights.  For instance tonight, we got to take my car to be serviced, eat dinner and then...an adventure in squirrel rescue.  I know, you're wondering why you can't have a social calendar like ours.  But wait!  You can!  All you need is a cat who goes on murder rampages about 12 times a week!  Tonight we were standing in the kitchen holding a large fan over our heads.  (That's a side story:  Donna put a pot on the stove, turned on the stove, but did not realize that she had not yet removed the stove cover.  Hence, there was smoke and fire and a need for much ventilation.)  So, as we're in the kitchen blowing smoke away, we hear a horrible noise outside.  It's a noise we'd definitely heard before...something between a scream, a cry and a squawk.  My heart always leaps into my throat when we hear this noise because it's indicative of only one thing:  murder.  Sure enough, Risky, the tailless wonder, was tossing a baby squirrel up in the air and catching it in his salivating mouth...a terrible sight!  I RAN outside to find this precious little sister clinging to life...

I ran and got a bag to cover my hands with, threw the murderer inside the house and picked the sweet baby off of the ground.  She was panting like crazy and all curled up in a little ball.  I immediately thought of our sweet friend, Cathy Carruth, who at one time used to rescue injured/abandoned squirrels and nurse them back to health.  I called Cathy, but she's no longer in the biz. Thankfully, she directed me to another sweet animal-lover, Lisa.  I called Lisa and within about 10 minutes, we were standing in this total stranger's house observing the world of squirrel rescue.  And boy, is that an experience!  She had like 10 squirrels in cages in her living room.  Interesting.  Lisa picked the baby right up and said, "She'll be fine!"  Risky had only nicked a little spot on her leg, but she said with a little bit of antibiotics and love, she'd be as good as new!
My heart is SOOOOOOOOO happy that this little baby squirrel will soon be able to say to her friends,  "I'm the one (make that the only one) that got away from the Shady Creek terrorist!"

**In the picture, you can see that the little baby was clutching my finger with her paw.  The picture is blurry, but her head is to the left.  She was terrified, but I think so happy to be rescued.  I'm going to sleep well tonight knowing that she's okay!**

I have to go because we have a very exciting rest of the evening planned...Can you say laundry, clipping coupons and online defensive driving!  We really like to live it up around here! :)
Try not to be jealous.

Aunt Hotsy's Sweethearts

Brock and Chloe were at our house last week.  Brock went to Camp Thurman for the first time, which was very exciting!  These are two little videos of the cutie-pies that I took while they were here.  Sure is fun being an Auntie!

World Cup 2010

My husband is a soccer loving MANIAC!  He's NOT an "I love soccer when it's time for the World Cup" type of fan.  He's an "I love soccer and want to watch/play anytime, anyplace...rain, snow, sleet or hail" type of fan.  So needless to say he is THRILLED that it's finally World Cup time.  He counts down the years, then months, then days, then hours until the moment it begins and pretty much LIVES soccer for an entire month!  He went out to Victory Park in Dallas on day one of the WC to watch the opening game and had the best time!  He was well protected from the sun and million degree heat in his trusty umbrella hat.  And while he does loves team USA, his favorite team to root for ALWAYS is Liverpool.  I certainly don't share his level of enthusiasm for soccer, but it makes me happy that it makes him so happy!

Oklahoma is more than OK...

What a wonderfully, beautiful place!!  For our 3rd anniversary we took a trip to Smithville, OK and stayed at The Reserve on Eagle Creek.  We stayed in this cute little cabin called Cliffside.  The property has about 8 cabins that are all spread out around this little pond.
This was our cute breakfast nook...
The amazing tub that looked out over a beautiful bluff...
I was pretty excited about the tub...in fact, I think it sealed the deal for me in choosing this particular cabin.  That, and the bedspread, Jessica! :)
This is the overlook off of the back porch of our cabin.
The living area...
The awesome bed with 2 billion thread count sheets...
My sweet husband standing on the deck and...
showing off the VERY BEST feature of the whole place...the hot tub on the back deck!  We were able to sit in the hot tub underneath a full sky of about a gazillion stars! Absolutely beautiful and so peaceful...
We rode the paddle boat...
enjoyed the pond and it's many creatures...
and rested in the chairs by the fire pit.
The owner of the bed and breakfast on the property is a wonderful chef.  This is the place where we enjoyed two fabulous meals.
This is Gizmo, one of the two pups that lives on the property.  His sister is named Gidget.
This place was just so amazing and so peaceful!  It was the perfect place to get away, talk, spend time together and enjoy God's awesome creation.
We skipped rocks, or I should say DOUG skipped rocks.  I threw rocks into the pond.
and did alot of resting on the rocks.
and ALOT of soaking in the jacuzzi outside!
We even went on a trail ride!!
We were definitely sad to say "Happy Trails" to this place, but hopefully we will return again someday!

What a wonderful annivesary celebration!  Doug, I'm so happy to be your bride! I thank the Lord for bringing us together, and allowing us to live, learn and grow together on a daily basis.
Happy 3 years, my sweetie!
